Pole Mountain Roads Temporarily Closed Due To Wet Conditions

(LARAMIE, Wyo.)  February 17, 2016 – Due to melting snow and recent wet conditions, all roads have been temporarily closed on the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest between Laramie and Cheyenne. Until conditions improve, the closures will prohibit wheeled motor vehicles, while still allowing non-motorized access for activities such as hiking, bicycling, hunting, skiing and rock climbing.... Happy Jack Recreation Site Reopens, Informed Usage Urged

U.S. Forest Service (USFS) staff successfully completed snow removal earlier this week at the Happy Jack Recreation Site parking lot, as well as on Forest Road 719, which accesses the day-use fee site. The site has been reopened by the Laramie Ranger District (LRD), who temporarily closed the site last week after extreme snow accumulation and winter weather delayed plowing operations.... US Forest Service Announces Payments to States to Support Local Schools and Roads

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced today that more than $50 million will be paid to 41 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to support local schools and roads under the Twenty-Five Percent Fund Act of 1908. The 1908 Act requiring 25-percent payments is permanent law and will guide 2014 distribution of payments, as the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act authority expired on September 30, 2014....
