Five Cowboys Ranked In 1st NCAA Coaches Poll

– The first set of NCAA coaches’ rankings were released Friday afternoon and featured five different Cowboys ranked inside the top 33 at their weights. The rankings are voted on by coaches and set the stage for the NCAA tournament and at large bids to the tournament. 

Stephen Buchanan checks in as the highest ranked Poke and the only Cowboy ranked inside the top ten. Buchanan is tabbed as the No. 7 ranked wrestler at 197 pounds currently holding a record of 13-2 with five wins over ranked opponents on the season. Buchanan also has two tournament titles on the season winning the CKLV Invite and the Reno Tournament of Champions. 

At 174 pounds, Hayden Hastings sits just outside the top ten coming in at 11th in the first set of rankings. Hastings is currently 14-4 on the season riding a streak of eight straight wins including back-to-back ranked wins in his last two matches. 

Jacob Wright (157) and Tate Samuelson (184) are both ranked inside the top 20 at their weights coming in at 14th and 19th respectively. Both wrestlers have at least 11 wins on the season and at least two ranked wins. 

Rounding out the group of ranked Cowboys is Job Greenwood. Greenwood, who has a notable win this season over No. 4 ranked Michael McGee (ASU), cracks into the 133-pound rankings at No. 33. Greenwood is currently 14-9 on the season. 

The Cowboys will look to try and improve their rankings on Saturday as they host No. 22 ranked Oregon State for their final home dual of the season.
