The public is invited to enjoy the “Hollyhock Commons” installed at the corner of 2nd and Custer Streets in Downtown Laramie. There are currently eight tables located at “Hollyhock Commons.” City staff will clean the site once each day, and users are encouraged to sanitize the tables before and after use (wipes provided), place trash in proper receptacles, ensure umbrellas are put down after use or not used in high winds, refrain from smoking and to follow social distancing guidelines and wear a cloth face covering when appropriate. Along with the “Hollyhock” Commons” four new tables and umbrellas have been provided at the 1st Street Plaza with similar requests of users.
Janine Jordan, City Manager said, “We hope that the installation of these common areas provides residents and visitors an additional safe venue where they can enjoy our beautiful downtown businesses and restaurants.” The City has worked with Laramie Main Street Alliance and the downtown community on multiple COVID-19 response projects to encourage safe shopping, dining and socializing.. These projects include the new parklet, hand sanitizer stations, welcoming the expansion of business activity within public rights-of-way such as sidewalk sales and seating, and the allowance for an open container district. “It is our hope that people gather at these common area safely to support the 35+ locally owned bars and restaurants that call downtown home.” Added Trey Sherwood, Executive Director, LMSA.
Businesses, partner agencies and City divisions that have contributed to the development of the “Hollyhock Commons” include the Laramie Main Street Alliance, Laramie Public Art Coalition, Trihydro, Roots out West Real Estate/Pisciotti Law, Blue Federal Credit Union, Centennial Woods, the Windmill Hill Greenhouse, Bloedorn Lumber, and the Laramie Parks, Facilities, Recreation, Streets, Solid Waste and Public Works Divisions.
