Hits 106 received reports earlier this afternoon that a walk on motion requiring face masks in public places from Councilman Paul Weaver would be brought to City council during their meeting tonight at 6:30pm.

It is not on the meeting agenda on the City’s website and calls placed to Councilman Weaver along with Councilman Brian Harrington about 1:30pm this afternoon seeking confirmation were not returned as of 4pm.

Unconfirmed reports are that the motion brought by Councilman Paul Weaver will be supported by Councilman Brian Harrington.

What Hits 106’s understands is that this wouldn’t immediately implement a requirement to wear masks but just start the process of the county requesting one by having Albany County Health Officer Dr. Jean Allias work with the state on a city wide mask requirement.

Hits 106 also reached out to the City Clerk & City Managers office who confirmed that this topic would be brought before City Council tonight.  It should be noted that the majority of council members would need to approve the order for the resolution to be heard and considered.

Should we receive a statement from Councilman Harrington or Weaver we will update our website and news with that information
