Special City Council Meeting Tonight, Tue, June 30th Concerning Protesters Call For Reform

Tonight at 6pm, the Laramie City council will hold a special meeting to take public comments about the city’s handling of calls for reform from protesters against police violence and racism.

This comes after the Police initially taking a hands off approach to protesters marching down Grand and obstructing roadways but city officials deciding they could no longer tolerate that.

Seven protesters were arrested and 5 cited after an incident this past Thursday, that altercation coming the same day Laramie Police posted on social media that citations would be issued for anyone obstructing the roadway after a warning.

One of the things expected at tonight’s special meeting is a resolution authorizing city staff to create and bring to council for its approval a civilian oversight board along with a plan to integrate mental health professionals into emergency response along with interactions between the police and public to increase.
