First Reading Of Additional Liquor Requirement Passes

By: Stacy Spensley

During a City council meeting on Tuesday, they unanimously passed an ordinance in its first reading that license holders would be required to attend 2 tavern meetings per year as part of the license renewal process or face a 25 point violation.

The new ordinance would also make it a requirement that everyone in an establishment who is selling or controlling alcohol to take part in a training program within 90 days of being employed by the establishment. Another outcome from the same meeting was that it was unanimously approved to reconstitute the ad hoc alcohol committee in 2 years to see the outcome of the different recommendations made and to measure the success of programs like the voluntary id scanner program the city has with several different liquor license holders.

Do note, for an ordinance to become law, it must pass 3 readings.
