LARAMIE, Wyo. (May 9, 2019) – The Wyoming volleyball team has released its schedule for the 2019 season. The Cowgirls will take on four teams that competed in the 2018 NCAA Volleyball Tournament, and six that earned invites to the NIVC. Overall, seven of Wyoming’s 11 nonconference games will feature teams that played in the postseason a year ago.
The schedule features 13 home games, including nine Mountain West matches. The Cowgirls will also host the Rumble in the Rockies tournament from Sept. 6-7, featuring Wyoming, Buffalo, College of Charleston and Northern Colorado.
Fans will get their first chance to see the 2019 Cowgirl squad at the Brown and Gold Scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. The team will then host Nebraska-Kearney for an exhibition game on Saturday, Aug. 24 in Cheyenne. More info on that matchup will be released soon.
Wyoming will officially open the season in Boulder, Colo., at the Buffs Invitational where they’ll face off with Colorado on Aug. 30 and Santa Barbara on Aug. 31. Wyoming’s home opener will feature LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
Following the Rumble in the Rockies, the Pokes will hit the road for two more non-conference tournaments—the South Dakota Classic (Sept. 13-14) and Creighton’s Bluejay Invitational (Sept. 20-21). The South Dakota Classic will pit the Cowgirls against Iowa, South Dakota and UC Davis, while the Bluejay Invitational features Creighton and Wichita State.
Wyoming’s Mountain West conference schedule features 18 matches, including a home Border War matchup with Colorado State on Oct. 1 and Senior Night against Utah State on Nov. 16.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 20-11 season in 2018. It marked the fourth 20-win season of the Chad Callihan era. The Pokes, who have reached the postseason in back-to-back years, return three starters plus the libero from last season, including two-time All-MW recipient Jackie McBride and 2017 All-MW honoree Tara Trapagan.
Season ticket renewals for the 2019 season are underway now and season ticket holders may renew their tickets online, by phone or in person at the UW Athletics Ticket Office. The Wyoming volleyball program is looking for its sixth-straight season of record season ticket sales. Season tickets are available now with general admission tickets only $65 for adults, $50 for UW faculty and staff, and $35 for kids ages 3-12.
