FORT COLLINS, Colo. (March 23, 2019) – Ja’la Henderson swept the horizontal jumps, and six other Wyoming track & field athletes picked up event wins at the Colorado State-hosted Fum McGraw Open on Saturday. The Pokes competed strongly against regional competition during a cold day in Fort Collins.

“Overall it was a good start to the outdoor season,” said head track & field coach Bryan Berryhill. “I thought we showed toughness and focus in all event areas. It was a cold day with temperatures in the 40s, so I’m proud of the way the Cowboys and Cowgirls competed today.”

The Cowgirls had six event titles on the day, led by Henderson’s pair of wins in the long and triple jump. She had a mark of 42 feet, 0.75 inches in the triple jump and 19-9.5 in the long jump. Jerayah Davis joined Henderson on the long jump podium, leaping a personal-best distance of 19-8 which is tied for the fourth-best mark in school history.

On the track, Kacey Doner picked up the event win in the 3,000m steeplechase with an altitude-adjusted time of 10:42.83, which is the third-best time in Cowgirl history. Katelyn Mitchem placed third in the event with the fifth-best time in school history, 10:55.33.

Solana Quistorff ran a 4:37.30 in the 1,500m race to pick up the win, and Jordan Edmonds posted a time of 24.70 in the 200m to pace the field.

Jasmyne Cooper finished second in the 400m with a time of 58.51 in her outdoor debut, and Kiah Leonard finished third in the 5,000m in 17:36.66, a personal-best time.

Marie Doherty finished third in the high jump with a height of 5-1.25, and Addison Henry finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 45-1.5.

For the Cowboys, Ricky Faure won the 800m race with a time of 1:54.90. Then, he teamed up with Bryce Ailshie, Brandon McGuire and Jace Marx to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:20.48. Ailshe finished third in the 400m race, crossing the line in 48.45, and Marx finished third in the 100m dash with a time of 10.79.

Harry Ewing won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:14.20, a strong start to the outdoor season for the Cowboy who narrowly missed All-America status in the event last season.

Reece Shannon took third in the triple jump, leaping 44 feet, 11.5 inches in the first outdoor meet of the Laramie native’s Cowboy career.

Colton Paller had a strong day in the thrower’s circle, finishing second in both the shot put and the discus. His shot put mark was 49-4.25, and he hurled the discus 171 feet, four inches.

The Wyoming track & field teams are back in action next weekend at the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Tom Benich Invite in Greeley, Colo.
