Stress Management and Wellness Events Scheduled at UW

Free programs to help relieve stress as the semester winds down will be offered at the Wellness Center for the UW Community

With the end of the semester approaching, the University of Wyoming Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center is doing its part to help the campus community with a variety of healthy stress management events the next two weeks.

“Stress can be a positive thing and can help us be productive and academically successful,” says Lena Newlin, Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center assistant director. “But too much stress can also make life difficult.”
The Wellness Center, Coe Library and the Campus Activities Center’s 7220 Entertainment are teaming up to offer opportunities for healthy stress management.

Free programs to help relieve stress as the semester winds down will be offered at the Wellness Center. Group fitness classes also are offered at Half Acre Recreation. For additional fitness opportunities, visit www.uwyo.edu/rec/group-fitness/. UW students are encouraged to use the Wellness Center’s free massage chairs. Appointments are required by calling 766-9355 or stopping in the center’s office.

Wellness events scheduled are:

— Tuesday, Dec. 4, 7:30-9 p.m., black light yoga, Half Acre Recreation yoga studio (free to members of Half Acre or with a guest pass).
— Thursday, Dec. 6, 12:15-12:45 p.m., drop-in meditation, Wellness Center Zen Den; and 2-5 p.m., free electronic foot massage in Coe Library.
— Friday, Dec. 7, 9 a.m., free fruit Friday and smoothie bike, Wellness Center; 12:15-12:45 p.m., drop-in meditation, UW Art Museum; and 9 p.m.-midnight, Winter Fest at Wyoming Union for UW students, includes hypnotist Chris Jones, a stuffed animal craft, a Zen Den room, minute-to-win-it games, and a “So Bad, It’s a Good Movie” marathon featuring “Leprechaun” and “Sharknado.”
— Monday, Dec, 10, all day, adult coloring, and noon-1 p.m., smoothie bike, both in Coe Library.
— Tuesday, Dec. 11, all day, adult coloring, and 4-5 p.m., puppy play date, both in Coe Library.
— Wednesday, Dec. 12, 8-9 a.m., “grab ‘n’ go breakfast,” for UW students, all day, adult coloring, and noon-1 p.m., smoothie bike, all in Coe Library; and 4-5 p.m., kitty cuddle time, Half Acre Recreation Room 115.
— Thursday, Dec. 13, all day, adult coloring, Coe Library; 12:15-12:45 p.m., drop-in meditation, Wellness Center Zen Den; and 2-5 p.m., free electronic foot massage, Coe Library.
— Friday, Dec. 14, all day, adult coloring, Coe Library; 9 a.m., free fruit Friday, Wellness Center; and 12:15-12:45 p.m., drop-in meditation, UW Art Museum.
