Public Meeting: There will be a public meeting Wednesday (June 13) at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Albany County Fair Grounds. Representatives from the incident management team and cooperators will provide an update on the Badger Creek Fire and be available to answer questions from the public.

Current Situation: The Badger Creek Fire grew to 5,241 acres as of Tuesday night. While firefighters focused their efforts on structure protection Tuesday, crews were able to begin building some containment lines in the southwest portion of the fire. Aviation resources were used to assist firefighters working on the ground with both retardant and water drops.

Rocky Mountain Team Black assumed command of the Badger Creek Fire at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13. Firefighters will continue structure protection and assessing fire effects in communities on Wednesday. Crews will also continue to build and improve fire line on the south and west portions of the fire. On the east and north portions of the fire, firefighters will look at opportunities to engage the fire where they will have the best opportunity for success while minimizing fire growth.

Structures have been destroyed on the Badger Creek Fire, and law enforcement is attempting to contact the property owners of those structures at this time.

Weather: The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with temperatures ranging from the upper 70s to low 80s on Wednesday. Winds will be out of the southwest at 6-10 mph in the morning, transitioning to west winds by the afternoon with gusts up to 20 mph. The inversion holding the smoke in the lower elevations is expected to lift by late morning. Firefighters anticipate the fire to become active by early afternoon as the clear skies allow the sun to pre-heat the fuels. Temperatures will cool slightly in the evening to the upper 60s. Smoke dispersal will remain good until temperatures cool overnight, when there is a likelihood for smoke to settle in the lower elevations.

Closures and Public Safety: Two road closures remain in place at this time. Highway 230 is closed from Woods Landing to the Colorado state line. Highway 10 is closed from Woods Landing to the Colorado state line. All of the existing evacuations remain in effect.

Albany County requests those who have been evacuated to email ema@co.albany.wy.us with accurate contact information.

Tip Line: The cause of the Badger Creek Fire is under investigation. The public is asked to call 307-745-2392 (select option 5, and leave a detailed message) with any information on activity they may have seen near Forest Service Roads 501 and 544D in the area of the Mountain Home OHV Trail system on Sunday (6/10) afternoon.
