Badger Creek Fire Update

Pre-evacuation notice now in place for town of Woods Landing, surrounding community, and south along Highway 10 to the state line

Update: 9pm

NEW EVACUATIONS: Area along Highway 10 from Woods Landing to the Colorado state line. The communities of Woods Landing, New Jelm, and Jelm are being evacuated by Albany County.

5:19 pm

– Fire has crossed Wyo Highway 230 between Wold Tract & Mountain Home, and is now on the south side

– Wyoming Highway 230 is closed

– A Type II Team has been ordered

– NEW EVACUATIONS: Beehive, Gramm, & Miller Lake communities are being evacuated by Albany Co.

– Pre-evacuation notice now in place for town of Woods Landing, surrounding community, and south along Highway 10 to the state line

– Power has been cut to the fire area as a precaution

– Monday’s weather was initially cool, but has warmed throughout the day and has been consistently windy

– Acreage burned by mid-day Monday was 150 acres. This number will grow substantially

– USFS Law Enforcement is asking the public for tips regarding the cause of the fire. Call 307-745-2392, option 5, and leave a detailed message.

– Cold front moved through Sunday night, lowering temperatures, but increasing winds

– Monday weather forecast is for temps in the upper 60s, 20-25 mph winds from the W, gusting higher

– Multiple Forest Roads are closed in the area: 501 & all spurs, 530, 544 & all spurs, 512 WA

– Additional Forest closures include: Mountain Home OHV trail system, Miller Lake dispersed camping area

– Cold front moved through Sunday night, lowering temperatures, but increasing winds

– Burning in the southern Snowy Range, Medicine Bow National Forest
– The fire grew quickly Sunday. Initial approx size was 25 acres
– Evacuations were put in place Sunday for Wold Tract, Mountain Home, & WyoColo communities
– Pre-evacuation notice for Foxpark, Foxborough, & Miller Lake communities
– Evacuees should contact Albany Co. Emergency Mgmt if assistance is needed or w-questions, 307-721-1815
– Stables for evacuated horses being offered by Albany Co. Fairgrounds or Glen w-Stonehouse Stables, 307-742-7512

– Two 20-person hand crews will be arriving today

– Initial response from USFS & Albany Co. VFDs
– Fire is located off of Forest Road 501, near a network of Off-Highway Vehicle trails. Approx 2.5 miles N of Wyo/Colo state line
– Headwaters of Badger and Pelton Creeks are nearby
– Initially reported late Sun. afternoon, June 10
