The 9th Annual Laramie Local Foods Gathering will invite folks of all ages to learn about gardening, local food and sustainability practices on Saturday, May 5th.  This year’s event is hosted at Whiting High School at 801 S. 24th Street.

Speakers will cover topics in three themed tracks, Local Food, Community and Sustainability.  There are 12 topics in all and participants are sure to find the offerings insightful and educational.

Laramie Local Foods is a nonprofit working to promote the production and consumption of local food, whether it be grown in a home garden or purchased from a local farmer, rancher, co-op or CSA program.  The organization also works to educate and inform citizens about practices that can make sustainability a part of their everyday lives.

Laramie Local Foods has an entirely new board of directors and lots of new ideas.  In the fall of 2017 Rene Sollars, Rebecca Ashley and Alison Doherty volunteered to carry the torch of Laramie Local Foods onward after the retirement of long time directors Sonya Moore, Suzanne Lewis and Cole Ehmke.  The new board is eager to continue the work of the organization while bringing some new ideas to the table.

This full day event will featured topics including container gardening, tomato grafting, creating and maintaining a sourdough starter, cheese making in under 30 minutes, an introduction to WyoFresh, beneficial insects, soil microbiology crash course, and introduction to Black Market Farm, reducing kitchen waste, composting with worms, lawn alternatives, and soil qualities.  President Rene Sollars says “The Gathering has always been Laramie’s premier gardening and sustainability workshop series.  We are thrilled to carry on this great tradition and hope the public will enjoy the speakers and topics we have arranged for 2018.”

Tickets are available in advance at  Advanced purchase tickets are $15 and will guarantee lunch.  Tickets purchased at the door are $20 and lunch will be served with these tickets while supplies last.
