The banquet includes dinner, auctions, raffles, and the Guest Speaker Duane Cook, the Founder of Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing. All proceeds go back to the organization to pay for trips, buy all supplies for fly tying, rod building, and administration fees to run the program.
“I took my position as program Director because PRVFF work’s with all veterans and active duty. No one takes a salary, so 100% of monies raised goes back to PRVFF and stay’s in our region. I know personally how this helps soldiers with physical and mental stressors, and I used fly tying and fly fishing in my mental health practice for meditation and relaxation purposes. We also give back the camaraderie most veterans lose when we return to civilian life,” says Jack Osman, Program Director of Platte River Veterans Fly Fishing.
The Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing began in 2011 in association with the national program. Our Board manages programs in Cheyenne, and Laramie, Wyoming; as well as Loveland, Greeley and Fort Collins, Colorado.
Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing provides basic fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying and rod building classes for veterans. Participants are from all walks of life, all fishing abilities, and from all branches of the military. Fly fishing gear, fly tying equipment, and materials for rod building are provided at no cost to veterans. Fishing trips, both one day and multi-day, are also provided free of charge to veterans.
