Overhaul efforts began on the Laramie Landfill fire Thursday (October 26, 2017) with crews from the Laramie Solid Waste and Laramie Street Divisions operating heavy equipment. Fire crews battling the blaze included Engine #7 from the Laramie Fire Department and Engine #21 and Tender #37 from Albany County Central.
The fire has been contained to the green waste pile that was involved. The green waste pile is estimated at 4,600 tons, of which approximately 560 tons were from the June 2017 wind storm event. The footprint of the fire involvement area is estimated at 1.5 acres with an average depth of 8 feet.
The cause and origin of the fire has not yet been determined.
