Laramie Man Arrested for Strangulation of a Household Member

On September 15, 2017 at approximately 11:07pm Laramie Police Officers were dispatched to Ivinson Memorial Hospital to speak with a victim of a domestic dispute that had occurred in the 300 block of South Cedar Street.

The Officer’s investigation resulted in the arrest of 44-year-old Laramie resident Daren Sowder.  Sowder was charged with False Imprisonment (WS 6-2-203), Domestic Battery (WS 6-2-511a), and Domestic Battery Strangulation (WS 6-2-509).  Sowder’s bond was set at $2,000.00 and he remains in custody at the Albany County Detention Center.

 False imprisonment is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than one (1) year, a fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($ 1,000.00), or both.

Domestic Battery is punishable by imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, a fine of not more than seven hundred fifty dollars ($ 750.00), or both

Strangulation of a household member is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than five (5) years.
