Dog Bite Being Investigated

On October 12, 2016 at approximately 7:30pm a subject reported she had been bitten by a dog in the 600 block of Mitchell while attempting to break up a dog fight.  Her dog was also bitten during the fight.

The victim said that a 60ish year old male was walking three (3) dogs on leashes and a fight occurred between his dogs and the victim’s dogs.  The male was described as 60ish, 5’9” to 5’10”, with white hair and a white beard.  The dogs he was walking were a light brown German Shephard, a white wire terrier, and another medium sized dog.

If you are the male subject who was walking the three (3) dogs, or you have information on the whereabouts of the dogs or the owner you are asked to call the Animal Control Unit at 721-5385 or the non-emergency Dispatch line at 721-2526.

Dogs that do not ordinarily bite humans may do so during a fight or while defending territory. Extreme caution should be used during any attempts to break up dog fights.

The Animal Control Unit would like to remind everyone that animal bites could involve exposure to rabies and that all animal bites must be reported to the Animal Control Unit immediately.  Victims of animal bites should try to identify the specific animal and the owner’s contact information while they are still present so that vaccination status can be confirmed.
