The Wyoming women’s basketball team returns home after a three-game road swing to host the Montana Lady Griz on Saturday. The game is set to tip-off at 2 p.m. MT in the Arena-Auditorium.
Wyoming is currently 4-3 after an 11-point win, 75-64, over the Denver Pioneers on Wednesday afternoon. UW was led by Marquelle Dent who eclipsed the 1,000 point mark with a 21 point effort in the game. Along with her points, Dent finished with a season-high ten assists for the fourth double-double of her career. She also moved into fourth place all-time in assists with 392. Freshman Marta Gomez added 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds while Jordan Kelley chipped in 13 points and five boards. Wyoming shot 24-of-52 (.462) from the field and 18-of-24 (.750) from the charity stripe.
Dent currently leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. She ranks second in assists, minutes played and assist/turnover ratio, plus is third in scoring in the MW. Kelley is averaging 11.4 points and 9.7 rebounds which is third in the league.
UW is shooting 149-of-402 (.396) from the field and 48-of-150 (.320) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 67.3-61.7 and out rebounding teams 36.1-34.3.
The Lady Griz are currently 5-3 overall after a 75-43 loss against CSU on Thursday night. Two players are averaging in double-figures led by Kayleigh Valley with 16.4 points and 6.5 rebounds followed by McCalle Feller with 13.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. Alycia Sims leads the way with 9.3 rebounds plus 7.4 points per contest. As a team, Montana is averaging 67.9 points per contest and 41.0 rebounds per game. UM returns two starters and seven letter-winners to a team that went 24-9 overall and 14-4 in the Big Sky conference a season ago.
This is the 18th meeting between the two schools. Montana holds the series record 9-8. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 4, 2014 with the Cowgirls coming out on top with a 60-54 win. The Lady Griz are coached by Robin Selvig who is in his 38th season.
