A portion of WYO 130 over the Snowy Range between Laramie and Saratoga closed for the season today due to limited visibility and snow accumulation.
Westbound travelers will encounter the closure at the Green Rock Picnic Area near milepost 36, about eight miles above Centennial. For eastbound travel, the closure begins near milepost 48 above Ryan Park.
The high elevation portion of this roadway is closed annually in late autumn when relatively low traffic, combined with increasing snow accumulations, make plowing operations impractical.
WYO 70 over Battle Pass remains open at this time, although typically that stretch of roadway closes within days after WYO 130.
Every year is unique and WYDOT will send an update on WYO 70 when the closure occurs.
Before traveling WYO 70, or any state highways in winter conditions, motorists are urged to visit www.wyoroad.info (and specifically for southeast Wyoming http://wyoroad.info/highway/conditions/Dist1.html) to check the road status.
Travelers may also call 511 within the state and get road condition updates.
Thank you for driving safely. Watch for plows in your travels and have a glorious Wyoming winter!
