Woman Arrested for Animal Cruelty

On December 31, 2014 at 9:28am, Officers from the Laramie Police Department responded to 2300 Block of N. 9th Street for an initial report of Animal Cruelty and Property Destruction.

Further investigation revealed that Ruth Henson, 52, of Laramie, had purposely caused the death of two pet cats by suffocation. Henson was arrested and charged with two counts of Animal Cruelty and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

A person commits aggravated Animal Cruelty (WS 6-3-203(n)), if knowingly and with intent to cause death, injury or undue suffering, cruelly beats, tortures, torments, injures or mutilates an animal resulting in the death or required euthanasia of the animal.

Aggravated Animal Cruelty is a felony punishable by not more than two (2) years imprisonment, a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000.00), or both.

Possession of a Controlled Substance (WS 35-7-1031(c)) is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than twelve (12) months, a fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or both.
