The student athletes at The University of Wyoming are wrapping up finals week this week in Laramie. Action on
the courts and mats is set to resume Saturday and then, of course, we’ll be heading in to the holiday break. But, plenty of “stuff” is still going on. Firstly, let’s give a big shout-out to young Mr. Lucas Wacha. The Redshirt Freshman received Honorable Mention as a member of Campus Insiders/CollegeFootballNews.com’s Freshman All-America Team yesterday. The Texarkana, Texas native plays linebacker for the Pokes. He was responsible for 88 tackles this season and averaged 7.3 tackles per game. Wacha started all but one game this season for the pokes as a Redshirt. His most notable game was against the Sheep, when he was credited with 13 tackles. He was fifth on the tackles list this season for the Pokes. Well done, Mr. Wacha.
Tomorrow is a big day for UW Athletics all-around. First, the Cowgirls will host the Lady Cardinals out of Ball State. The 2 PM tip-off at the Arena Auditorium will be the start of a very busy day for the Double-A. After the Cowgirl basketball game, the Arena Floor will be transformed into a wrestling venue. The Cowboy grapplers are taking on The Oklahoma State Cowboys tomorrow night at 7. It’s a double-header of sorts and the Athletic department is offering a discounted ticket price for those who attend the Cowgirl game earlier in the afternoon. The Pokes are very happy to welcome a top-caliber team like OK State into the Double-A. If your goal is to be recognized as one of the top wrestling programs in the U.S., then you have to compete against top programs in the U.S. And Oklahoma State is just that. The Cowboys out of Stillwater are an elite program and this match will highlight some very, very good wrestling. Try and catch both The Cowgirls and The Cowboys tomorrow.
